EVENT DETAILS

What it is:

A day of interactive activities to highlight the different facets of engineering, and how engineering affects our every day life, with prizes! The goal is to encourage students to consider a future in engineering by taking the focus off the math & science requirements and shifting it to what they can accomplish with the mind-set of an engineer (problem solving, thinking “outside the box”, looking at things from all angles, etc).

Bridge Breaking:

In the months leading up to the event, participating children in groups of 3 or 4 will design and build a bridge from popsicle sticks and white glue based on given dimensions. At the event, they will be subjected to increasing load until failure. Prizes will be given out based on a ratio between weight of the bridge and the weight that it holds.

What they will get out of it:

  • The importance of planning before initiating a project

  • Insight into the different ways STEM impacts our society

  • The past, present and future of engineering

  • Prizes

  • Fun!
